This past Monday I picked up the new Canon 40mm EF f/2.8 STM Lens which is the smallest lens from Canon. When I first heard about this lens, I didn’t plan on buying it because the specifications on it were nothing I really needed due to my current lens armory. The 40mm isn’t a focus length I need as I already have a 35mm L and a 50mm f/1.8 both of which have a much wider aperture. When it comes to primes, no one would buy such a short focal with a f/2.8. Aside from its small size, there’s nothing impressive about it especially since it cost twice as much as the Canon 50mm EF f/1.8 which is the general same focus range, a much wider aperture, and slightly larger.
With the two side by side, the size isn’t really that much of a difference, but…
