Twenty-five years ago this week, an F4 tornado ripped through Edmonton, killing 27 people. The damage was so severe, and the community response so great, that then-mayor Laurence Decore declared Edmonton the “city of champions,” a term later adopted as its official slogan. The Post’s Jen Gerson spoke Friday with Angela Merriott, who was a seven-year-old resident of the Evergreen Mobile Home Community, where 15 people were killed:
